Many of our patients have questions about Botox Cosmetic® and its anti-aging and rejuvenating benefits. Understanding what Botox Cosmetic® is and how it works helps in making a confident decision about choosing this form of treatment to prevent and soften the signs of aging.

Botox Cosmetic® is a purified pharmaceutical derivative of botulinum toxin that has been safely used in medical treatment for over twenty years. It is a naturally-derived, FDA-approved protein - it is not poison.

Controlled injections of Botox Cosmetic® result in inhibited movement of muscles preventing the formation of unwanted wrinkles and creases that arise from facial expressions. In our practice, Botox Cosmetic® is chiefly used to prevent or soften the formation of furrows and wrinkles in the full forehead region, between the eyes, and in some cases of crow's feet. In special cases, other areas may be treated.

In younger patients, Botox Cosmetic® prevents the formation of wrinkles and facial creases. In patients who have already developed wrinkles and furrows, Botox Cosmetic® can soften and sometimes eliminate these lines. Other treatments which can further improve the results of Botox Cosmetic® include skin resurfacing and soft-tissue fillers.

The effects of Botox Cosmetic® will last typically from 3 to 4 months. In order to maintain the results of Botox Cosmetic® therapy you must continue treatment. If you choose not to continue treatment your appearance will return to its condition prior to treatment.
